Who is Juan Ramon Quintana?

September 1, 2007
Tags:

An editorial in La Razón by Juan Cristóbal Soruco throws the gauntlet back at Juan Ramón Quintana, the presidency minister who two days ago attacked a number of Bolivian social scientists (see earlier post)—labeling them as “anti-national”—for having at one time worked for USAID or some NGOs linked, in different ways, to USAID and/or for having at some time worked for the Bolivian government prior to 2006.

The indictment: Juan Ramón Quintana himself once participated in the Banzer regime (he was aide to Fernado Keiffer, Banzer’s defense minister). None of this is secret; you can view his online vita. Like many other Bolivian social scientists, his work ties him to such NGOs as USAID, ILDIS, PIEB, the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, and others. What was that about people in glass houses?

PS. On September 8, La Razón ran a story on Quintana, pointing out (among other things) that Quintana attended the School of the Americas on more than one occasion.
