A big “thank you” to everyone who called, emailed, or posted a comment of good wishes on the birth of little Javi (Javier Enrique). We’re all three of us now back home, recovering, but tired.
A special thanks to Andy & Saloumeh who drove up from Wilmington to feed our cats, wash our clothes, feed us, and help us move out of the hospital (were we spent a full four days & nights). I even got to sit on my stoop, smoke a cheap cigar (the gas station’s “finest”), and knock back a bear w/ my brother. You can take the boy out of Saginaw, but you can’t take the Saginaw out of the boy.
Also, FYI: Holy Spirit Hospital is an amazing place. All of the staff were great, and put up w/ our tiredness & nervousness incredibly well.
It’ll take us a while to get back to “normal” (though that perhaps will now be forever redefined). No, Javi won’t have his own blog—but he’ll make periodic appearances here. I’ll still post about Bolivian politics, interesting academic musings, etc. But most of my attention is now devoted to m’hijito—though he won’t be the focus of this blog (which isn’t a personal diary or confessional journal).
And, if you’re wondering, he already seems to have a favorite song. He’s been consistently falling asleep to me humming “Los pollitos dicen.”
