Boz, who frequently posts poll numbers from across Latin America, has some interesting poll numbers for Peru.
President Alán García seems to have leveled out at support in the low 30s (and in high 30s to low 40s in the Lima area). More surprising still, however, is that concurrent polls show just more than half of Lima & Callao residents approve of former President Alberto Fujimori’s tenure from 1990-2000. The former president (who introduced the term “self-coup” to the world) is currently facing various criminal charges stemming from his semi-authoritarian regime.
To put that in perspective: Bolivia’s Evo Morales is currently polling in the low 50s. Ecuador’s Rafael Correa’s support has been steadily declining, reaching the mid/high 50s. In other words: Alberto Fujimori is today about as popular as elected presidents in neighboring Andean republics. That is a troubling thought.
