Our trip to Boston was exciting. It was great to see old friends again, and spend time discussing the finer points of Dark Knight (among other comic book related things). Here’s some pictures:
First, some caveats: I don’t recommend visiting Boston if you have an infant or if you use a wheelchair. Much of the public transportation (on which tourists rely) is not handicap (or stroller) accessible; those sections that are really aren’t “accessible” in the typical sense. Maneuvering a stroller off/on the “T” is not something anyone should attempt alone.
But Boston certainly does have a lot to offer, once you’re out & about. Boston Common is very nice. Javi is now old enough to play. Too bad we didn’t have more appropriate clothes for running around in the fountains. It was also fun seeing him tower over kids twice his age.
We also had fun catching up w/ old friends. Some highlights: Javi got to meet some Marvel Zombies (there was supposed to be an impromptu Marvel Zombies meetup, but only a handful showed up). We had an amazing brunch at Neighborhood Restaurant in Somerville (where Josh & Nick live). We walked through Harvard Square & Harvard Yard. Popped into a number of comic book stores, including Newbury Comics (which isn’t really a “comic book store” anymore). Visited the Museum of Science, where Javi wasn’t scared of the lightening demonstration (even though much older kids were).
All in all, it was a great trip. Except for getting stranded at Logan International by our airline. Fortunately, I’m not using Air Tran for my upcoming San Diego/Boston trips.

I loved "The Dark Knight" though it was more violent than I expected. At least it wasn't gratuitous violence. And did they have a trailer for "The Watchmen" when you saw it?
I think overall this year was pretty good for comic book movies. "The Incredible Hulk" was far better than that awful version in 2003. Even though Eric Bana is good looking and Ang Lee is a great director, but you can't beat Edward Norton. I just have to try and see "Iron Man" before it leaves the cheap theater in town.
I didn't get to see "Incredible Hulk", though my friends who saw it said it wasn't as good as "Iron Man" (which I did see, and think was just brilliant). I also didn't see any trailers, since the old 1930s art deco theater I went to has few trailers.
But, yeah, I thought "Dark Knight" was great. I think Joker was perfectly played. Not some stupid gimmicky/campy rendition, but as the real psycho that he is. I also think Harvey Dent's future was very well set up. I'm glad Joker had no origin story (he just "is") and that Two Face's origin was tweaked to be more believable.
I'm also very excited for "The Watchmen" ... and for an upcoming "Powers" movie (based on the comic book by Brian Michael Bendis).
Oh, man! I used to live right across the street from the Neighborhood Restaurant. What great memories....
