National Aquarium

We just got back from a Saturday excursion down to Inner Harbor. Last week was K8’s birthday, so I bought us tickets to the National Aquarium in Baltimore.

I have to say that it certainly gives the Chicago’s Shedd Aquarium a run for its money. Yes, it was crowded, but I also think it had both more species & more specimens. I’d like to go back when it’s not so crowded (we got there on a mid-Saturday). But the exhibits were well laid out & designed, w/ lots of interesting information, and enough distance between exhibits to make it seem like an adventure. Javi was also extremely excited, particularly watching the larger fish.

This weekend was also Otakon 2008, which I was completely unaware of. We shared our light rail ride w/ a number of attendees, including Zelda & Princess Peach. Downtown was swarming w/ manga, anime, computer game, and other assorted characters. It looked like a lot of fun; we’re planning to attend next year (I could dust off my Luigi costume). If you’re interested in Otakon, it’s every year around this time in Baltimore.

And if you’re interested in a wonderful, simple lunch: I recommend the Atwater’s soup counter at Belvedere Square. Yesterday we popped in after a visit to the park. I had their chilled avocado & lime soup, K8 had their chicken & sweet paprika soup, and Javi had a slice of fresh baked bread (and played w/ his caterpillar). They change their soup menu daily (by the cup or the bowl), along w/ sandwiches (half or whole). A cup & half a sandwich is less than $10. Seriously, their soups are fantastic.

I bet it was fun! I trust you got some for Javi for Halloween? Do we get a peak? :-)

We still haven't decided. K8 doesn't seem to want anything Star Wars themed. I definitely want it to be scifi.

Now now, I am not opposed to scifi, I just don't necessarily know if I am on board with the whole Star Wars idea. Just to be clear. I want him to be cuteish. (And yes, as you pointed out yesterday, ewoks are cute, but that does not mean I approve. Yet.)

Well, maybe a mohawk'd-zombie ewok with a miniature of Tikal in his hand that he can chew on. Maybe.
