We start back to the US in a few hours, making our way from VVI to MIA to ORD. Let’s hope AA treats us better on the way back than on the way in.
Overall, the trip was a great success. Javi clearly enjoyed himself, particularly running around in family yards, watching all the vehicles (more variety here than in the US). I got a great deal or research started (it will take months for this phase to be “done”); I’m also bringing an entire carryon suitcase filled w/ recent books. Oh, and look for my brief editorial essay in tomorrow’s “Tiempo Político” section of La Razón.
I’ll post lots of pictures on Flickr once we’re settled back in Chicago. But then we whisk away to Michigan for my brother’s wedding, and to visit friends/family throughout the state. We won’t be “home” until mid-Augut, when we move to Oxford, Mississippi—just in time for the fall semester at Ole Miss.
So the hectic pace of summer 2009 will continue for at least another four weeks, when we can resume our “normal” routine of teaching classes, grading papers, working on research, and watching Javi grow up.
Have a good trip back, Miguel ... I hope AA gives you a better experience this time around.
¿Why don't you publish your "brief editorial essay" here?
Thanks, Pablo. I'll try to find some time to translate & post the TP piece here when I get a chance. In the meantime, it's now online (it wasn't when I wrote the earlier post):
