And so, Battlestar Galactica winds down to a sad, but exciting end. Tonight’s episode will surely end in another signature cliffhanger, leading up to next week’s series finale. But the ride has been an amazing ride through four seasons.

I’ve waited months, anxiously, for the return of Battlestar Galactica, which heads into its last episodes of its final season after a mid-season hiatus. It looks like I’ll have to wait a little longer: I have (another) overnight retreat for new faculty to attend (please, TiVo, don’t fail me now!).

If you’ve watched CW network lately (don’t ask), you’ve no doubt been bombarded w/ ads for 90210, the sequel/spinoff of the original Beverly Hills 90210.

K8 & I are big fans of Project Runway & Top Chef (both on Bravo TV). Unlike most “reality” shows (which are garbage), these revolve around actual abilities—highlighting contestants skills & creativity, rather than backroom drama. While neither of us sews (though K8 insists she’ll someday use our still-unwrapped brand new sewing machine), both of us have found inspiration watching the Top Chef contestants. These are truly talented individuals. (And I keep encouraging some of my friends to audition for both shows.)

But the current season of Project Runway is starting as a bit of a let down. So far, in the first two challenges, the overall quality of many contestants’ designs were subpar—at least by the standards of previous season contestants. Or is it just me?

The spring speaker series I put together at Dickinson is winding down, w/ two final speakers who will focus on the Andes.

Finally saw Helvetica last night on DVD. My friend Jake saw it a few months ago when it was shown in Philadelphia. I have an amateur’s interest in design, so the idea of a documentary on the typeface Helvetica intrigued me. Plus, I value Jake’s opinion on these matters (he has a professional’s interest in design).

The Argentine presidential elections are coming up tomorrow (Sunday, 28 October). It’s highly likely that Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, the wife of current president Néstor Kirchner, will win the presidential race. The latest Angus Reid poll puts her at 47%—w/ her nearest rival (Elisa Carrió) pulling in barely 16%.
